Where: UWF Center for Fine and Performing Arts, 11000 University Parkway (Building 82), Pensacola

Pensacola Opera opens its 44th season with Zach Redler and Jerre Dye’s contemporary opera The Falling and the Rising. It follows a soldier in a coma after a roadside IED injury, moving through a dreamscape filled with fellow service members on their own journeys toward healing and home. It’s sung in English with English supertitles.

Chase Sanders sings the Soldier, Cody Martin conducts and Dean Anthony directs. The company recruited a chorus of Pensacola-area veterans and service members to join the final scene, which gives these performances a local tie the week after Veterans Day.

From Gulf Breeze, the UWF campus is on the north side of Pensacola, so allow extra time to cross the Pensacola Bay Bridge and head up through the city before the 7:30 curtain.

Check before you cross the bridge: Pensacola Opera’s event page showed this as scheduled when we checked on November 2, 2026. Recovery from Hurricane Isaias is still under way around Pensacola Bay, so confirm with the organizer and check FL511 for road conditions before you go.
